Flintlock pistol with openwork and gilded metal decoration o - Lot 115
Flintlock pistol with openwork and gilded metal decoration on a wooden frame, likely reassembled and further decorated in the Ionian Islands. Ottoman period, late 18th century (damaged and missing parts; it still has its original trigger guard, though it is detached). The openwork decoration on this weapon, strongly influenced by European styles, is characteristic of decorations from the Ionian Islands. A firearm of the same type, also featuring a design of plants and stars, is published in: Elgood, R. 2009, *The Arms of Greece and Her Balkan Neighbors in the Ottoman Period*, Thames and Hudson, ill. 212, p. 174. Length: 78 cm.
