MUHAMMAD B. ʿATIYYA AL-ANDALUSI AL-SLAWI AL-FASI (d. 1129 H. - Lot 73
MUHAMMAD B. ʿATIYYA AL-ANDALUSI AL-SLAWI AL-FASI (d. 1129 H./1717 CE): SILSILAT AL-ANWAR FI TARIQAT AL-SADAT AL-SUFIYYA AL-AKHYAR NORTH AFRICA, LATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURY. Arabic manuscript on watermarked paper, comprising 220 folios, written in 23 lines per page in fine Maghribi script in brown ink, with the title of the work, the headings of 15 chapters (bab) and sections (fasl), as well as certain terms highlighted in blue, red, or orange ink. The manuscript is undated but can be attributed, based on material criteria (script, layout, and paper), to the second half of the 17th century or the early 18th century. Original brown leather binding, heavily damaged, decorated with a central cold-stamped mandorla framed by a band of interlaced motifs; spine and edges reinforced with cloth. Folio dimensions: 21 × 15 cm; writing area: 14.5 × 9 cm. A treatise on Sufi piety and spiritual morality setting forth the virtues, practices, and rules of conduct for the believer, composed by Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAṭiyya al-Zanātī al-Andalusī al-Ṣlāwī al-Fāsī (d. 1129 H./1717 CE), a scholar, jurist, and ascetic originally from al-Andalus and based in Fez, active in the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th century. His work, the *Silsilat al-Anwār*, is a seminal text in Maghreb Sufi literature, written at the turn of the 12th/18th centuries. This manuscript is thus notable for its chronological proximity to the very composition of the work. Condition report: The manuscript has sustained water damage along the bottom margin, leaving water stains on all the leaves in that area. Nevertheless, the text remains generally legible. The binding is worn, with a few wormholes and old fabric reinforcements on the edges and spine.
