LARGE DEEP DISH (GHOTAR), WITH SALOMON'S SEAL AND BEAUTIFUL - Lot 118
LARGE DEEP DISH (GHOTAR), WITH SALOMON'S SEAL AND BEAUTIFUL LARGE CARNATIONS. NORTH AFRICA, MOROCCO, FES, 19th CENTURY. The flared rim, resting on an annular base with two suspension holes, in earthenware with polychrome enameled decoration on a cream background, radiating around a star centered by a floret in two concentric octagons, beautiful carnations surround the composition. Diameter: 39.7cm; Height: 13cm. This dish is distinguished by its monumental-scale decoration. The carnations present in this dish are very characteristic of a group produced around the 18th/19th century. For two other pieces with the same type of carnations in the Dar Jamai Museum in Meknes, Morocco, and the Musée de l'Homme in Paris, see : Bernd Hakenjos, Marokkanische Keramik, Dusseldorf, 1987/88, cat. 58-59, p. 93.
