Pattachitra, sometimes also called Patta Jatri, refers to a style and format of painting traditionally attributed to Orissa (now Odisha). The rise of this style of painting is said to be linked to the town of Puri, home to the Jagganath temple, an important Hindu place of worship. Pilgrims bought these paintings as devotional objects for their private homes.
