TWO RARE MILLEFIORI GLASS COSMETIC CONTAINERS. MESOPOTAMIA, 9th-10th CENTURY. In two-tone mosaic glass, one is a navicelle dish, oblong shape, formed of translucent blue and white ocelli, its right end restored. 12.3 x 6 cm. The other is a slightly hollow, rounded dish with radiating striated motifs, chipped and missing. Diameter: 5 cm. A small leaf-shaped recipient is kept at the David Collection in Copenhagen (33/1978) and another of identical shape and dimensions is kept at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin-Preussischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin. They are published in: S. Carboni and D. Whitehouse, Glass of the Sultans, 2002, cat.65 and 66, pp. 151-152.
