VELVET CALLIGRAPHY PANEL EMBROIDERED WITH GOLD AND SILVER THREAD. COMPOSITION CREATED BY THE FAMOUS CALLIGRAPHER OF THE KA'ABA: 'ABD AL-RAHIM AMINI AL-BOUKHARÎ, IN MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA, DATED: 1418 H./1995. Rectangular form, in black silk, embroidered with silver thread and gilded with a calligraphic poly-lobed medallion, inscribed in thuluth, lined with green velvet, mounted on a wooden frame. 63.5 x 89 cm.
Provenance: Acquired from Shaykh 'Umar Shaybi, keeper of the keys to Mecca.
Inscription: "Allâh Rabb al-'Alamin al-Rahmân al-Rahîm".
The kiswa is made of black silk and decorated with calligraphy in thuluth, a type of calligraphic composition created by the Ka'aba's famous calligrapher, Abdulrahim Amin Bukhari.
Reproductions of these compositions have been reproduced in several countries in the Arab world, without the "mark" of the Mecca workshops. See, for example, two examples recently sold at auction, published in the public sale catalog: Archéologie & Arts d'Orient, May 21, 2025, lots 101 and 103.
