PERSAN MANUSCRIPT: BOOK OF THE KINGS OF FIRDOUSI (SHAHNAMEH), INDIA, MOGHOL ART, 19th CENTURY. Ink, polychrome gouache and gold on brown paper 13 ll. of text written in nasta'liq in two columns, framed by gold and blue fillets. Titles in gold and red cartouches, inscribed in red. Sharlow illuminated with gold floral scrolls on a blue background. 16 miniatures painted in vivid polychrome, predominantly orange and blue. Some folios preceding the miniatures inscribed obliquely in diamond-shaped cartouches. Bound in havana leather, decorated with medallions, bordered by a leaf frieze, missing, worn, margins often missing. Text: 17.5 x 8.3 cm; Manuscript: 24 x 14 cm.
