Abu al-Hussein Ahmad ibn Muhammed ibn Ahmad al-Quduri (Baghdad 362-428H/973-1037): Moukhtassar Fil-Fiqh al-Hanafi IRAQ, BAGHDAD, ABBASSID ART, 11th-12th CENTURY The text of this double sheet deals with the issue of divorce "Kitâb al-Khal'". Sepia ink on brown paper. 15 lines per page written in Arabic, in naskh. Marginal comments by different hands, added at different periods. Mottling, small tears at extremities. 19.3 x 30.4 cm. Al-Quduri was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 362 AH. He is considered the leader of the Hanafi school of thought in his time, particularly in Iraq. He was taught fiq'h by Abu 'Abdillah Muhammad ibn al-Jurjani. Al-Quduri was one of the ashab al-tarjih (jurists with the ability to issue the most respected opinions of the school). In his time, he was the highest authority of the Hanafites of Iraq and his fame was great. His name is mentioned in the Hanafi school's reference books such as "al-Hidayah" and "al-Khulasah". He died on the 15th of the month of Rajab, in 428 AH in Baghdad, and was buried in his house. He was later buried next to Abu Bakr Al-Khawarizmi, another great Hanafi jurist. Al Muktassar is al-Quduri's most famous work, also known as "al-Kitab". This "matn" text deals with fiqh issues covering a wide range of fields: worship, transactions, relationships, penal and judicial matters and more.
