TENTURE (RASHTI-DUZI) - Lot 63
TENTURE (RASHTI-DUZI) IRAN, RESHT, 19th CENTURY Square-shaped, composed of strips of felt, wool and applied polychrome elements. Embroidered with a central rosette surrounded by eight vases. Wide red border of floral bouquets. Red silk lining. Good condition, minor stains and wear. Size : 153 x 153 cm. This type of hanging originated in the Recht region of northwestern Iran, near the Caspian Sea. For an in-depth study of the 19th-20th century Persian textiles in the Ramezani Collection, see : Marie-Louise Nabholz-Kartaschoff, Persian Textiles, The Ramezani Family Collection, Verlag Anton Pustet, Salzburg, 2019, pp. 68-95. This resht is overall in good condition, the colors remain well-saturated, the delicate embroidery is well-preserved. There are some missing threads, causing the center of some of the embroidered flowers to slightly lift off the main fabric. There are some small stains, mostly on the backing; and one very small hole visible on the reverse and on the front, measuring approx. 0.5cm in diameter in the front, and 1cm in the back. As viewed.
