PAGE D'ALBUM : PORTRAIT D'AFLATUN OU DE ZINDEH BIN AHMAD JOUANT LA CORNEMUSE ET LA VINA IRAN, LATE 18th CENTURY Gouache enhanced with gold on paper, mounted on an album page decorated with floral scrolls and an illuminated cartouche. Old number on verso, inscribed in pen: N°25. Miniature: 11 x 7 cm; Page: 29 x 18 cm. Private collection, Paris. Former private collection in the southwest of France. There are several versions of this painting from Qajar Iran that have appeared in public sales, one of which includes the name of the depicted figure "Zindeh b. Ahmad". Ahmad", see Christie's, Islamic Art and Indian Miniatures and Rugs and Carpets, London, October 15, 1996, lot 168, reappeared in a lot of two paintings in a Christie's sale, Indian and Islamic Works of Art and Textiles, London, April 11, 2008, lot 109. Another version at Sotheby's, Arts of the Islamic World & India including Fine Rugs & Carpets, London, June 10, 2020, lot 63. The latter two bear an inscription attributing them to the artist Muhammad Zaman, and are inspired by an original Mughal version formerly in the collection of the Kevorkian Foundation, sold in London, December 6, 1967, lot 141.
