Calligraphie montée sur une page d'album... - Lot 58 - Rim Enchères
Calligraphie montée sur une page d'album (Qit'a) : Quatrain sur Nowruz Signed by Hasan Shamlu, Khurassan or Herat, Safavid art, 17th century Ink, gouache and gold on paper, mounted on an album page. Four lines in nasta'liq, inscribed in reserve on a golden background decorated with flowers. The lower triangle gives the signature: liraqamihi Hasan Shamlu (by the one who wrote it, Hasan Shamlu). Double border of floral scrolls on a beige and red background, and plain purple margin. Condition: retouching, wear. Margin partially faded. H. 30,5 cm ; L. 20,7 cm The calligrapher to whom this page in the lower triangle is attributed is Hasan Khan Shamlu, the Amir al-Umara and Beglerbegi of Khorassan during the reign of Shah 'Abbas II (r.1642-66) and Shah Suleyman I (r.1666-94). He was also governor of Herat during the latter's reign. The signature seems to indicate that he is also the author of the verses. His last known work, listed in Bayani, is dated AH 1045 /1635-36, but according to other sources he died in AH 1100 /1688-89. Some of his calligraphies are in the Bodleian Library, Oxford and the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris (Mahdi Bayani, Ahwal wa-Athar-i Khushnawisan, vols. 1-2. Nasta'liq-nawisan, Tehran 1363 (1984), pp. 142-144). Expert L.S.
