Page size : 34.5 x 19.5 cm ; Miniature size : 18.7 x 18.2 cm This illustrated page is taken from a Shi'ite epic relating the life of 'Ali, the Prophet's son-in-law. Shi'a epics were a popular genre in the Qajar period, but only a few illustrated manuscripts have survived, making this page a rare example from this period. Canby, Princes, Poets and Paladins, Musée d'art et d'histoire Genève, second printing, 1999, p. 95, cat. 68.
