GRAND MEDAILLON DE REVÊTEMENT Â LA SCENE DU JUGEMENT DE SALO - Lot 144
GRAND MEDAILLON DE REVÊTEMENT Â LA SCENE DU JUGEMENT DE SALOMON IRAN, QAJAR ART, 19th CENTURY Siliceous ceramic with painted decoration in "grisaille", in green and blue, on a white background. Cracks, chips and flaking decoration. A LARGE CIRCULAR POTTERY TILE, PERSIA, QAJAR, 19TH CENTURY. Ø: 48.5 cm THE SCENE Solomon is represented by a young Qajar prince, holding the famous ox-headed mace (gurz-i gâvzar/sar, a weapon very present in Persian mythology), five women, a child and a soldier dressed in European costumes around him. The inscription in a medallion indicates a subject different from the scene represented (The assembly of the pharaoh and the birth of Moses), the scene being girdled by a floral frieze.
