CORAN ET FÂL-NÂMAEH
IRAN, SAFAVID ART, 17th CENTURY Ink, gouache and gold on paper, 302 folios, 15 lines per page, calligraphed in Arabic and Persian, written in naskhi, rayhani and nast'liq, frontispiece illuminated with floral motifs and gold foliage, titles of the suras inscribed in gold against a background of blue foliage, the Qur'anic text followed by two pages of illuminated prayers inscribed on a gold background. The Fâl-Nâmeh (Book of Fates), beginning with a table inscribed in Persian, in nast'aliq, indicating the auguries corresponding to each of the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet in cartouches arranged in columns. Several mentions of the birth of the notes by the owners, the earliest of which is dated 1281H./1864.
