Illuminated frontispiece. Colophon dated 7 Safar 1274 AH / 27 September 1857. Soft-bound in orange with embossed designs. H: 19 x W: 11.7 cm This diploma (ijaza or icazet) validating knowledge ('alim) was issued in 1857 by Mustafa Sharif ibn al-Khalil al-Zaghrawi to his pupil 'Uthman ibn 'Uthman al-Urdawi (Osman bin Osman Ordevi). The professor gives several chains of transmission from his own master, Mustafa bin 'Umar (Mustafa bin Ömer) known as Vidini (from Vidin in Bulgaria), and chains including masters such as Fakhr al-Din Razi and Imam al-Ghazali.
