DEUX GRANDS PLATS DE RELIURE IRAN, QAJAR ART, SECOND HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY Rectangular, painted and lacquered papier-mâché. The exterior is furnished with animated scenes of characters illustrating episodes from the life of Joseph, framed by cartouches with Persian inscriptions in white nasta'liq on a black background. The interior adorned with a large central mandorla, cartouches and fleurons inscribed in Persian on a red background trimmed with gilded scrolls. Size: 43.2 x 29 cm (each).
