Turkey, Ottoman art, 17th century Of baluster form, hinged and topped with a grip point, with a handle connecting it to the flared pedestal, in gilded copper, decorated with openwork lotus flowers and arabesques in cartouches. Handle and hinge in copper without gilding. Faded gilding, two small cracks. H. 22.5 ; Diam. 11.2 cm This openwork metalwork with vegetal decoration is found on the upper part of a tombak lantern, preserved in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts (Inv. 170, published in Sahin, The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, Blue Dome Press, New York, 2011, p 217). Another finely openworked incense burner was sold at Sotheby's (London, 3 October 2012, lot 242).
