North India, Lucknow, Mughal art, circa 1815-1820 Text inscribed in brown ink on paper, in verses arranged in two columns, the miniatures painted in polychrome gouache and gold, the miniature on the front page illustrates three vertically organized scenes, around princes and princesses, in a large palace garden, the one on the back page represents princesses admiring nature. The number 20 is written in red ink at the top of the front page. Edges of the margins pasted on the marie-louise of the time. Spine of frame with an old Joseph Soustiel label and a label inscribed in blue pen giving a description and stating: Soustiel, Ref. 65. Text : The 9 verses of the love poem in Urdu to Mathnawi, concerning the women (fairies in the text) gathering in the flower garden, under the shade of the trees, and describing their physical aspects, dresses and jewelry. Folio size: 30 x 19 cm; Miniature size: 8 x 11 cm and 18.5 x 11 cm. Former Joseph Soustiel Collection, n°65. This page comes from a manuscript of which several pages were published in the catalog of the public sale directed by Me François de Ricqlès: Archéologie, Arts d'Orient, Paris, April 14, 1994, lot 322 (a-i), pp. 86-88. Another page was sold at Mes Pierre Bergé & Associés, Art Primitif, Extrême-Orient, Art d'Orient, Paris, November 30, 2007, lot 184.
