Calligraphie montée en page d'album (Qit'a) : Nad-i 'Ali
Central Asia, Bukhara or Herat, 16th century Assemblage of calligraphy on paper and illuminated cartouches, mounted on card stock. Quatrain in nasta'liq, on a gold-flecked background, accompanied by several illuminated cartouches and registers, one inscribed later, attributing the calligraphy to al-Mudhnib Ahmad (a)l-Husayni. Margins decorated with fleurons and multi-lobed cartouches, with a background of gold scrolls on a water-green or black background, cut out and applied on a background of gold scrolls. Condition: wear, folds, some repaints and wetness, the triangle inscribed with the name of the calligrapher probably reinscribed during the assembly. H.: 31,5 cm; W.: 21 cm; central panel: 20 x 11 cm The margins of this album page are typical of 16th century Bukhara or Herat. The writing is of good quality, the background of clouds in reserve on a network of golden scrolls has almost disappeared, nevertheless, it is possible to see that it is the same background of the triangle inscribed with the name of the calligrapher.
