Vase Samson dans le style d'Iznik
France, late 19th century Vase with baluster body and flared neck with two handles, on flared pedestal, in polychrome enamelled ceramic, with floral decoration of carnations, peonies and saz leaves. Marks on the base: s in Arabic and x H.: 25 cm It seems that this object is inspired by an Iznik vase from the Italian royal collections, now dispersed (published in Théodore Deck, La Faïence, 1887, open source, fig.11 p25). An example made by Ulisse Cantagalli in larger dimensions, and another very similar Samson vase were sold at Christie's in April 2016 (Arts & Textiles of the Islamic & Indian Worlds, 22 April 2016, lots 426 and 428).
