HILYE (IJAZET), SIGNÉ PAR HUSAYN AL-HASANI TURKEY, OTTOMAN ART, DATED 1872-73 Three-part "icazet" (diploma) document on paper, mounted on cardboard. Ink, gouache and gold. Text in thuluh and naskh script, in cartouches and roundels surrounded by polychrome and gold floral motifs. A poly-lobed pediment with floral motifs on a green background surmounting the Basmallah. The central medallion (göbek) contains Ali's description of the Prophet, surrounded in the four corners by the names of the first four caliphs in roundels. A verse from the Qur'an tops the lower part. At the bottom, two cartouches indicate the name of the scribe Husayn al-Hasani (Hüseyin al-Hasani) and of the person who approved his work: 'Abdullah al-Rushdi (Rüshdi), as well as the latter's pupil, Mustafa al-Fawz (Fevzi) ibn al-Hajj Husayn Agha, known as Menlazade, in 1289 AH / 1872-3.
